Specific Skills Required:

Qualified Engineer with direct experience of at least 10 years in planning, designing and/or implementing road infrastructure/public transport projects. Direct experience related to “full Bus Rapid Transit (BRT)” systems, suburban rail projects (international experience will be an added advantage).

Duties of the post:

Under the direction of a Project Manager, assume responsibility for the design, management, coordination, and control of all actions required to meet the deadlines and deliverables pertaining to the planning and implementation of infrastructure projects with specific reference but not limited to:

i. Roadway engineering.

ii. Bus infrastructure

iii. Intersection projects;

iv. Station projects;

v. Terminal project;

vi. Depot project;

vii. Park-and-ride facility construction;

viii. Cycling/pedestrian projects

Provide technical oversight of detailed planning, establishment of technical specification and procurement of construction contracts in collaboration with a consortium of consultants
Assume responsibility for the timely delivery of implementation procect outputs on time, in budget and with adherence to quality standards.
Assume responsibility for the certification, and meeting of technical standards in respect of construction contracts.
Provide regular reports to the Project Manager.
Coordinate the work of other project team members and appointed service providers.

Will have a minimum knowledge, skill, experience and personal attribute profile as follows:

Knowledge/Qualifications:

Knowledge on Project Management.
Registered as a Professional Civil Engineer in terms of the Engineering Profession Act, (Act 46 of 2000) or Chartered Engineer with membership status in an a registered European/South African Institution of Engineers.
General Knowledge of public transport operations and management.
General Knowledge on Local Government processes.
Management over teams

Skills:

The ability to plan, organise and coordinate large scale and complex processes.
The ability to lead multi-disciplinary teams.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
The ability to maintain task focus, ensure performance and deliver results within a positive work culture.
The ability to work with relevant programme and project management information

Working on the planning and design of road/public transport project.
Working on the planning and design of traffic management projects.
Working in a project and or programme environment.
Leading multi-faceted project teams.
Working with various stakeholders.
Project and programme based financial management and reporting.
Local Government and/or public sector project experience
