Wash IPA project benefits is a great western states, the evaluation of public health through sanitation at random, and five years of study to assess the nutritional and health benefits of water treatment.
In the first phase of the study will begin in early 2012, the benefits of WASH is working ten thousand and one baseline study in 1000 villages and 10,000 households for intervention. IPA water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH) project has the advantage of seeking a qualified candidate for the position of coordinator of the laboratory.
Laboratory Coordinator, in order to measure the transmission of parasites to environmental enteropathy and young children in order to achieve the objectives of the project, sample collection, processing, and the flight of the children of Western Kenya , blood, and manage the analysis of urine samples.
The position offers the opportunity to gain first hand experience of managing the site in the organization to carry out cutting-edge research and development. This position will move to other areas in western Kenya Kakamega, Nairobi, Kenya are based.
Lab Coordinator University, Kenya Medical Research Institute (KEMRI) in the management of the benefits of washing and Moi, academic researchers, and work closely with partners and projects.
The lab coordinator position is based on the KEMRI headquarters in Nairobi.
Responsibility
* Implementation of the protocol developed in the field, collecting and processing blood and the Director of the stool samples
* Includes, develop an implementation of the protocol processing laboratory to monitor.
1. Indicators of environmental enteropathy (intestinal permeability or intestinal inflammation) ELISA in serum of venous blood for testing.
2. ELISA was used to test stool samples for analysis of markers of intestinal inflammation.
3. Giardia, Cryptosporidium, ELISA testing of stool samples for testing and for dysentery
4. Hookworm, whip microscope Kato Katz stool samples to detect and worms
Including the development and implementation of quality control and quality assurance procedures *, lab technicians check the data and analysis, management
Support for the cleaning and preliminary analysis of data *
Support for the drafting of reports and policy briefs Project *
Coordination with local partners, such as KEMRI Moi University *
The desired qualifications and experience
* Minimum 3 years experience in biological experiments
* The experience necessary to do an ELISA test
Kato - Experience is preferred to run the microscope Katz
Biology *, environmental, health or a bachelor's degree in related field.
* Experience of life in developing countries is a stronger
* Excellent management and organizational skills along with strong quantitative skills
Excellent communication skills and fluency in English * is a stronger, more fluent in Swahili.
